    Sugarcard --> Sugar Direct

    I was just looking at SB's site and saw on the bottom that the Sugarcard is being replaced by the Sugar Direct card. Some details:

    $99 buys you:

    Upon purchase you’ll receive a FREE All Mountain Ticket, 25% off peak midweek tickets, 20% off weekend and holiday lift ticket rates during the winter season, plus upon your 10th lift ticket purchased, the 11th is FREE. Sugar Direct members also receive 10-15% off lodging, rentals, retail, restaurants and more. Must purchase prior to December 18, 2009. Valid through May 16, 2010. Click here for a full list of benefits.
    Looks something like Smugg's Bash Badge.

    Ski 10 paying days and it is not only free, but you're paid to have it.

    (2 day tickets > $50 each.)
    .
    Two roads diverged in a wood,

    and I- I took the one less traveled by,

    And that has made all the difference.

    If we assume that the full rack rate for weekends (and let's face it - this is targeted to weekend skiers) is in the $76 range, you end up paying $61/ticket for the first 10 you buy. With the ticket included in your purchase, plus the 11th being free, that's:

    $99 + ($61*10) = $709 for 12 days of skiing. That comes out to $59/day for your first 12 days. That's a pretty decent value, but the CT Ski Council is still a better deal, unless you spend a decent slug of money on SB-owned lodging, rentals, retail etc... Certainly an improvement over the SugarCard, so that's progress.

    As I type this, it seems that this would be really attractive to VT residents who have a handful of midweek days to play with and are looking for a deal. At 15% of the midweek rate, you're looking at $50-ish ticket, which is pretty fantastic for a premier hill like SB.

    sugarcard

    I have a friend who uses his Sugarcard. I wonder if he will have to buy a new Sugar Direct card this year or are they grandfathering the old ones and maybe offering no free ticket to keep using the old sugar card. I wonder if the discounts apply to Ellen only tickets as well. I have not read the website yet. the Sugarcards were supposed to be good for life as I recall.

    The old Sugarcards are valid this season, but they expire at the end of the 09/10 season. They were not valid for life! The Sugar Direct is a much better value. This is only available as a discount to the All-Mountain day ticket.

    quick math

    Doing some quick math, the break-even appears to be two Saturdays. 99+ 20% of $82 = 165 -> 82.5/ticket.
    I'm also assuming no tax.

    In fact, I purchased a SugarDirect card today. And I hope to get some tracks in by the end of next week.

    I skied the area pretty consistently from 1988-1998, but only a few days over the past decade.

    Maybe this will lead me to a full season's pass next year.

    Good move. I think the Sugar Direct Card are only available for purchase for another day or so.
