    Grooming Question

So now that the season is almost over, I had some technical questions about how you guys winch-groom certain trails, considering that I don't see fixed anchors except for the one on the top of LP for Organgrdiner.

1). When you groom FIS (which is rare), what do you use as the anchor? Another machine parked at the top? And remind me how long it takes someone to groom that run. IIRC last season the guy said 3-5 hours alone

2). Do you need a winch for Exterminator or any other trail at 'Ellen?

3). What anchor do you use for grooming Stein's?

4). Last, when you groom Ripcord, do you use the OG anchor or something else?

    Nerdy grooming questions I know....

    Stein's . . . Anchored on a tree.

FIS ... Anchored by a winch cat at the top.

I've seen both of these, and have pix, somewhere.
    .
Two roads diverged in a wood,

and I- I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

Exterminator and Bravo is at top of NRE buried in the trees I believe.

So what is the real scoop on BMM anyway? Did the mountain tell him to stop posting or was it his dad? Inquiring minds want to know....

    BMM

I think BMM's presence on this board was not only an obvious asset to all who visit here, but it also reflected positively on the 'Bush. It's hard for me to imagine someone interpeting it much differently than that. He seemed like a young man who loved skiing and loved the Bush.

Well, a person only has so much time on his hands. And when you eat, breath, and dream skiing, only so many boards. Honestly, this place is very quiet.

But wait, maybe we should just relax and not speculate about stuff or what a member does/doesn't do or why he won't come out to play with us. The more you hound someone, the more they probably won't want to come out.

From where I sit, I think we all need to get back to skiing.....

That's a very polite answer summit. Anyway I found out the real story and it is what I suspected. It's just a shame to loose his posting. He had good energy and enthusiasm.

I have to say that I was wrong about the whole BMM thing. I am sorry BMM and will refrain from such posts in the future.
    Sincerely, Steve

Hawk This is America where we value freedom of speech. BMM is one of the most enthusiastic ski bums I have ever met and also one of the nicest kids you will ever meet. He writes what he wants and no one interferes with him.

    winching

most trails at mt ellen Can be groomed without a winch, it is just more efficient and economical if you can groom up and down a trail instead of going around. However, by utilizing a winch, we can push more snow uphill, thereby offsetting the effects of gravity and skier traffic. It is also less hair-raising for the operator on the way down if you hooked up. Many times in the headwall on inverness, the racers will form a rut that is so big the cat has to go vertical and just can climb back up it! Hence, the need for the big Yo-Yo. Just because it will reach that far, we will leave the winch hooked up and do all the way down to the gmvs poma.

    Groomer

    How long is the cable?

Do you remember or did you see Nellie grooming FIS back in the early 80's with no winch? It was a crowd pleaser for sure. Roy would buy him 2 shots of whisky before he headed up.
