...learn the post-incident analysis of the avalanche deaths.....beacons used ? avy danger levels at the time ? equipped partners ? etc.
The incident in Colorado I was referring to was a death in Aspen sidecountry....a patroller. Flying solo in the sidecountry.

Very sad story. Makes you wonder how someone so expierenced can make a poor judgement call. I feel so sory for his family.Originally Posted by smootharc
I was at the canyons last year and couldn't believe how many people were hiking up beyond the Ninety nine 90 lift exiting the gates with no pack, or shovel and I assume no beacon! Totally insane!

All the focus is on the naked guy hanging upside down from the chair but all I see is powder. Nice powder.
I saw the same chair left up due to wind on Brovo over the holiday and quickly alerted the lifty who...thank god...had the second left to drop the seat before the guest loaded. They did not even know it happened.
And now it's snowing!
How much is he going to get? I am not a big proponent of suing, but this guy has a case. The lifties did not catch the seat in the upright position.
The pics were on the "Today" show. Most reasonable people would expect to be able to safely sit down on a chairlift, with out having to worry about the seat being up. This would be an easy sell to a jury.
The fact that he was hanging upside down naked for 15 min would say he has a case. I expierenced the same thing this past weekend that Treeskier did.....Lifties were inside and stoped the lift before disaster happens. Which brings me to another question:Originally Posted by TOS
Doesn't anyone look behind them before sitting down on a chair lift?
