You disappoint me. I realize that you are but a mere youth, however, pre-Army Elvis was certainly Rock'nRoll. Vegas Elvis is another matter, embarassing unless you also like Jerry Vale etc.In the Sun Records years Elvis cribbed the emerging genre from the black blues shouters, mixed it with a little hillbilly, and made it Rock'nRoll, e.g. Hound Dog was originally Big Mama Thornton, Good Rockin' Tonight was originally Wynonie Harris, etc. Despite the racism that prevented the originators from cross-over hits, as far as music is concerned, it doesn't get any more authentic Rock than early Elvis. Yes Jerry Lee Lewis was big, until he married his 12 year old cousin--marriage lasted, career didn't. Connie Francis?--- more pop than Rock, IMHO. Pretty soon thereafter came Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley Little Richard and a steady stream of rockin. These were the years when it all began, and what a long, strange trip it's been.
I don't want to be pedantic, so if you need more enlightenment I refer you to Scooter--- he knows his stuff.
