View Full Version : How some posters are being treated unfairly

No way dude.

See, this time it was the Sugarbush crew that skied SR, not just some guy with a digital camera. In other words, your post to posts that say something nice about the mountain percentage is around the Mendoza line, right?

No, the usual dbs can post whatever they want, no censoring, no threadlock, no kicked to Misc. You haven't been accepted here gs.

Try more misspelling, missing the point, and mis-guided attempts at, well, anything.

Also, nice turn by turn run descriptions down intermediate slopes are well loved.

Goneskiing, last I looked you had over 147 views on your thread, so it wasn't banished, just moved as it had nothing to do with Sugarbush.

You're right, that other than the fact that there were Sugarbush skiers there, the other thread really had nothing to do with Sugarbush. I've now moved it in response to your complaint.

Feel free to continue to complain about your poor treatment here.

Lostone, we barely have enough people here for single forum let alone 4. However, if you see a reason to move stuff around by all means... My suggestion would be to keep all skiing related stuff together, regardless of where it is done.

PS: I can't help thinking that you are taking this moderation job too seriously and title of this topic is a fine example.

It is my belief that the topic presents best your topic. If you would like another, I'd be happy to try to change it for you.

Thanx for your concern about my being too serious about being a moderator. I have a tendency to do every job I do, the best I can.

I understand there are a number of forums on the internet that are much more willing to have mostly and totally unfettered debate. I participate in a number of them. At times they have a tendency to go toward the lowest common denominator. Often, the only people that regularly participate are those that like that level.

"As my grandfather said, 'Son, don't wrestle with a pig. You'll both get filthy, and the pig likes it.' " ... Scott Alerek... and probably 4000 other people.

That is not the purpose of this board. It is to provide help and information about Sugarbush, Mad River Glen, and the Mad River Valley, as well as general, respectful conversation about many other topics.

I hear your interest in having one room for any skiing topics. You can do a poll to see how everyone feels. I don't like the idea, as I like having the rooms separated such that requests for information can be directed at the target area. But I don't own the site, and am perfectly willing to work it the way the majority wish.

As for your moved target, it has 154 views. That isn't bad, for a topic with only one reply. It is not hidden.

What the F are you talking about? We've always moved TRs about other ski areas outside of the Sugarbush forum. I can sympathize on the censorship bit, as I'd prefer a a bit more lively conversation myself, but don't make up stuff just b/c that's what happened to be passing between your ears at the moment. Surely we don't want this pace to degenerate into the second coming of the old RSN boards where there was nothing of value and just a lot of chest-thumping by guys from Whiteface, of all places. Your paranoid delusions about access to the board being tightly controlled are a joke - that's entirely in Greg's hands and approving new members for this relatively small board probably isn't at the top of his hourly priority list.

Instead of whining about whatever perceived frustrations you have, how about you start a thread to make constructive suggestions for improving this place? What are your ideas and suggestions? I've yet to see anything like that from you - just complaints. I guess that's easier to do.

I think there are real suggestions in this thread, and others. Seriously though, Lostone seems to perceive every suggestion as a challenge to his supreme authority. Look at the renamed and split thread....Having two concurrent SR TR's, one with his buddies and the other, better one, in the garbage can more eloquently states his views about SkiMRV than any of his Moderater justifying nonsense about keeping out the riff raff.

Here is the truth: The "Regular Posters" on SkiMRV enjoy having a board with only ten posters. Maybe it's because, like the valley, it's way better to be a local, but maybe it's also because some of these people don't enjoy the same treatment IRL.

A messageboard about Sugarbush that had more people discussing skiing and the mountain would be way better for both things.

And how could 154 views possibly be justified as a good thread? The only way is that if it actually started in the Misc it would have received about 5 views.

Enjoy your private little messageboard club and Happy halloween.

Why is everyone so flipped out? Yes, these forums are an exclusive club, but the only membership fee is respect. Don't go on about freedom of speech; there are tons of alternatives to this board if you don't like the way things are run. Either put up or shut up, because the conditions you're dealing with just aren't that harsh.

Man, it's time for snow.

So what, specifically, would you suggest. It's difficult to parse through the various complaints and rants up thread.

Here is the truth: The "Regular Posters" on SkiMRV enjoy having a board with only ten posters. Maybe it's because, like the valley, it's way better to be a local, but maybe it's also because some of these people don't enjoy the same treatment IRL.
That's just straight up BS. For the record, I don't know a single person on this board outside of a few 15 second conversations with Lostone while strolling by on my way to the hill. There are no preferred members. There is no preferential treatment. If your only "contribution" is inane rambling and insults, ala barkbiter, you're likely to see a higher % of your threads locked or edited. I'm not sure why that should be surprising. It's not like there are any sacred cows here. How many times have we, including this Moderator, slammed the mountain for any number of real or perceived shortcomings (early/late season at LP, boot/bag storage the size of my closet, CR Pub too small, lack of snowmaking, lousy food/service at Timbers, line cutting privileges - the list goes on)? The only thing that gets moderated are the personal insults. Again, while I'd like a little more lively discussion, is the editing of useless insults really such an affront that the forum seems sanitized as a result?

A messageboard about Sugarbush that had more people discussing skiing and the mountain would be way better for both things.
Agreed, especially pre/post season.

What the F are you talking about Tin Woodless ? YOU posted the vulgar rule breaking words that sat there all day. I repeated the same exact words and was quickly scolded and threatened with banishment. Did you get the same? Uh, no. I suppose your inane rantings are soooo much beter because the schoolmarm didn't punish you. There's no different treatment how ??
Ok now your turn, drive out your whambulance. Oops, is that too wild? Will that get me banned? Oh no !!!!

Can't we all just get along? . . . . Let's just call the whole pissing match a draw, and move the F on to posting shizzle about matters that are worthy of the very important distraction that is The Bush, Skiing, Boarding, Biking, Gravity or whatever.

Because this bitching about bitching and bitching about the the editing of bitching is F-ING boring. I suggest u all use the extra hour tonight to sleep on it and get over it. Ur all better than this! Now snap out of it! Otherwise, let's all meet in the parking lot, and get it on!

And if we're gonna mix it up,there are gonna be some ground rules. First, every one wears ski boots. #2 no one hits the face. I can'tgo to work on Monday and explain that my face got all F-ed up in a fight with a bunch message board posting dweebs wearing ski boots. Alright, clearly, I've reached the tipping point of sensible candy and beer consumption to make any sense. So in conclusion: Happy Halloween . . . . BITCHES.

[quote=Tin Woodsman]Tin, I think you're having too much fun with this. I'm with Yard Sale - let's just call this one.

Tin is an internet version of pit bull - he never lets go and got keyboard stamina to prove it.

That is the problem with over moderating, it is people doing the moderation and inevitably you end up doing different things on different days. Of course admitting that is out of the question. Let's call it all baseless complaining and move on...

Tin says unrelated TRs are always moved except Tree's SR thread that sat there for days. My thread gets moved at 6AM, not even 7 hours after I posted it. Reason given is that Tree's thread is about Sugarbush skiers. What does that make me?

Lostone hacks up biter's post and threatens a ban, but Tin's stuff stays until it is pointed out.

If we just let things be, there will be no need for these debates. I am well aware of the misc forum, if I felt like posting there I would have. I took pictures, wrote the post, let me pick the forum to put it in. There is no need to re-classify every thread, edit out every little turn in conversation. Porn, profanity should be kept away, let the rest of it play out. It will make for livelier conversation and maybe attract some new posters.

PS: In Tin's "call out" style, everyone who is calling for an end to this discussion why don't you post a TR or two from last season... This will give us something new to talk about.

I can't speak for Lostone, so you'll have to ask him. I can say that from my vantage point, I don't read every thread right away if the topic doesn't interest me. So it's conceivable that I could come in a few days after one is posted and then decide to move it at that point. Doing so immediately to another thread would certainly looks like inconsistency but really be just a result of inconsistent timing of my reading the thing in the first place.

Lostone hacks up biter's post and threatens a ban, but Tin's stuff stays until it is pointed out.

While you'd have to ask Lostone with respect to his specific rationale on the above, it should absolutely be expected that posters who have a history of adding zero to the debate or just stirring things up will have a shorter leash than others. Whether some of you are friends with barkbiter is in real life and he's a swell guy is irrelevant to this discussion. The record is clear with respect to his participation here, so I'm not sure why it should be a surprise that a moderator would have a quicker trigger finger when it comes to that. He's the only one that comes to mind when I think of people fitting that category, so if there are accusations of "preferred posters" or some such nonsense, the definition of that term as it pertains to SkiMRV is "everyone but barkbiter", at last count about 750 people instead of the 10 claimed. It's somewhat insulting that he then comes here whining about unequal treatment - akin to the story about the kid who kills his parents and then expects sympathy b/c he's an orphan.

Of course that doesn't excuse my language, so I've gone back and edited it once it was pointed out. Still, I avoided infantile mother jokes etc, which have no place outside the 2nd grade school yard.

Great rationale. So your use of the vulgar words was ok because you're such a good guy and great poster. The rules don't apply to you, only the evil one. So if you've led a stellar life and had to murder your parents because they were wiseacres, then you shouldn't be punished. Nice.

Tin Woodless and LostMarm just can't admit you were wrong or even POSSIBLY made a mistake. Here, I'll show you how to do it.
Ok, so maybe I can be a little harsh. I'll try rein it in in the future.

But I will have to admit, I have a problem with bullies, hypocrites, and unequal treatment of anybody anyhow anytime.

I'm in the parking lot most days a little late, and linger in the lunch room late too.
