As as look forward to a new year I can help thinking about when I will make my first turns? Will I wait until the mountain opens or will I strap my skis to my pack and hike/skin up to grab a few?

I know the opening day is out on Nov 21, but when do you think you will make your first turns? Will you earn them (hike/skin)? How far will you would you hike/skin to make the turns?

Mother nature willing my goal is to earn some turns on Nov. 14th. I will be up noth this weekend and then I wont be able get to VT until then.

Well if it snows in VT enough to make turns then I will hike.....and I don't mean like those knuckleheads at Stowe last week.

If not...... they are talking about opening up as early as Halloween at Sunday River. I would definately do the road trip and visit my old friends. :)

I had seen that already, definitely knuckle heads thats for sure. I was wondering what their safety meeting was like it might have focused to much on Vermont Green!!!

I will be out on Opening day, no time to hike, the newest Sugarbush lover arrived at 1 am Sat, 7.7 lbs and 20.5 inches. I got the baby Bjorn all ready for him. The problem is going to be getting him from the Mrs.. She is not to keen on the idea of him skiing this winter, but understands that I must get my skiing in. At least I think she does!

Congrats! I got my daughter out in the baby Bjorn when she was about 7MO's on a small flat loop around a local pond after a fresh dump. Me on Tele's my wife on snowshoes. Gotta get them hooked early :D

Will be up for first turns 11/21, not sure I can make the 14th for hiking or lift served if that were to happen early. :D

Hoping to start Thanksgiving weekend for the season. We have had pretty good conditions the last few years around Turkey day.

Greg, no disrespect for sure. You guys have some of the best eastern footage I have ever seen. I just have a good respect for early season injury at my age. The kucklehead term is something my friends and I have used for years. You guys keep postin and I will keep shakin my head. It's good to be young and injury free. No harshing at all.

Definitely no disrepect, probably more jealous than anything! If I was being disrepectful I would have called u a F#$## idiot or moron. Knucklehead is a tender term!!! Rock on and keep up the stoke, and watch the water bars!!!

gotcha! :D

now that i realize the tone, i'm glad to be a knucklehead! maybe we should be have called ourselves the knuckleheads rather than the FIS's ;)

i guess that's already been done though.

hope to spend more time around the bush and MRG this year! love to make turns with any/everybody...

PS there actually was no VT green on the trip whatsoever believe it or not! there was however definitley some VT brown... ale. yes we know it was silly... thought that was fairly clear in sam's writeup

What is interesting is that not everyone make turns early, I believe for the fear of hurting or breaking something, but we all ski late in the spring were the conditions are sometimes the same. Who has not skied Liftline or Rumble with questionable amount of snow in the spring?

I remember skiing Castlerock where the last turn to the lift was nothing but mud and water, but the bank was all grass (25 yards). In order to save my ski bottoms I took the grass path along with the crew I was with. Let me point out that this line had "0" snow on it. Hey Muddy I need to get you the file....

ps. as a side note I sold those skis on ebay two weeks later

Well plans changed. I was able to get up north this weekend and with that I skied MRG on Sat and Ellen on Sun. I have to say that the conditions about 3/4 the way up Ellen were great with lots of snow.

The man has the fever!

Did you try out your new boards this weekend

Looking forward to making a couple turns with you this season, when there's a bit more snow in the woods! It's still soccer season down here...... !

I had my 156 Nomads with G3 Onyx Tech bindings...the bindings did take some getting used to, but the boards were great. I did not want to use my new skins so all I had was 80mm. These worked fine at Ellen, but on Antalope they did not cover enough of the width and I had some issues with sliding back. I will be back up in Nov.

See you soon.
