Would much rather be posting a weather report from Fox, telling us 18 inches of Champlain powder and no wind is due in on Thursday night through Friday, but oh well....

I know, it's REALLY sad to start a string about this so early, but sometimes a little planning is necessary.

Does anyone know if the MT Ellen closing date has been picked, and when it is? If so, please enlighten us.
Is any formal "end of season" dress rehearsal planned to be held at the Glen House?
Maybe the forum could post a little stoke to kiss MT Ellen lift service goodnight until next season?
Simple "B4 - Season's End" party?

Beverages, Bar-B-Que, Bumps, and Band, sometime in late April on old Glen Ellen?

We're very fortunate, in a bittersweet sense; we get to have (2) two end of ski season parties at one resort.
Win? Anything on the radar yet?

Not exactly a secret, from the Sugarbush website.....

Mt. Ellen Passes
Valid at Sugarbush's Mt. Ellen and early season at Lincoln Peak (before Mt. Ellen opens)
Scheduled closing of Mt. Ellen will be the last Sunday of March, 2009, Mother Nature permitting

same as last year

And for those that are lovers of the old Glen Ellen...

There will be a 45th Anniversary Celebration that will be held for Mt. Ellen on Saturday evening March 21st. More details on this will be forthcoming.

All: this is one of my favorite topics--> when does the season end. It is so much a half full (or even one sip remaining) vs half empty POV. Spring skiing does not end when the lift stops turning, in fact I would argue it is just beginning. The long days and temp changes create some of the best spring skiing there is. Snow packs solidify, gnarley lines become very managable and then as Atkinson always says the multi sports days start with skiing and riding/kayaking/hiking etc. So this spring, don't think about the lifts stopping turning but think about those long days that run to May & June when you can still go skiing. Pick up Drew Haas' Dack Descents and start skiing the Dacks or head to the Presidentials and pick up lines in Gulf of Slides, Tucks etc. Even plan a camping trip to tucks. Go up on Sunday to Hermit Lake, check into the shelters and ski a sunny Monday - Wed when the bowl is empty and you can just enjoy the vibe. Or better yet, for you budding AT'ers, book a hut trip like Fairy Meadows, Sorcerer, Ice Fall and really enjoy some late season pow. I've hut skied the last week of April a few different times and the snow has been great northern aspect powder skiing--yep at the end of April. Or for a bit cheaper route, pick up Front Range Descents, fly to Denver and start skiing those lines in May and June. You can hit up Berthoud and with a bit of a tour (1200 ft) get 3000 ft descents to the road on either side of the pass. Check it out..............me.........on the way to CO from May 16 - 24 for a bunch of those late spring runs...............and hoping for a run on the Dragon Tail............This is in Rocky Mt National Park. Enjoy the spring, lifts and hiking!

Glass always half full or better here, and you've probably seen me earning my turns throughout the northeast too, into June sometimes, and as early as October.

JUST hoping to organize a festive party for the last day of lift service at ME......... A simple social gathering plan with positive vibe.....that's all.

ME will close on Sunday, March 29th for lift accessed skiing and riding. The following weekend the Adventure Games will end there just as last year. I am hoping that we can keep Lincoln Peak open through April and maybe the first weekend of May. Hopefully, New Englanders will stay close to home for April vacation week this year. We have blown a lot of extra snow on Stein's, Snowball, Spring Fling, Coffee Run and Valley Traverse.

Our Spring Pass will go on sale this weekend. Same as last year - $199 - and valid from Monday, March 30th until we close at Lincoln Peak. Next Year's Season Passes will also go on sale this weekend.

We dodged another bullet today. It does not appear that we lost very much if any snow depth. Temperatures are falling tonight, so the groomers will have a lot of work. The wind, though, is drying it out somewhat so tomorrow might be better than otherwise expected. The forecast for the weekend looks great, so I think we will have some nice Spring skiing and riding Friday into early next week.

The weekend of March 20th we will celebrate the 45th anniversary of Mount Ellen (Glen Ellen) with some BBQ's and music Saturday afternoon.

The next Saturday is Pond Skimming at LP.

This thread is premature. I'm not thinking of winter ending until after St. Patty's. Hoping to see something brewing weather wise for tuesday.

And speaking of Pond skimming, did everyone see this from Vermont Life Magazine (http://www.vermontlife.com/pdf/sp09-outdoor-recreation-web.pdf)?

Does everyone forget what happen last St. Pat's Day and what followed after that? Back to back dumps! Awesome spring skiing.

I think the huge St Pat's storm you are referring to was 2007. That had some big dumps in early April when Mt Ellen closed as well. I recall the skin track up Mt E was quite pronounced and the skiing was simply epic with no lifts and so few people skiing it. Let the power dumps begin!!!

I think the huge St Pat's storm you are referring to was 2007. 2007, the year of spring holiday storms- Valentine's Day/St. Patrick's Day/Easter.... I was a little worried about Mother's Day!

You are right; it was two years ago; but the late March , early April snow of last season was close to epic.

07' is correct for the St. Patty's storm. Last year a day or two before St. Patty's we got the freezing rain storm and Lostone posted the pics of the Ice Chandeliers on Castlerock. I remember skiing in the woods and getting hit by hanging ice batons. It was sketch and beautiful all at the same time.

I shot this somewhere at ME a day after the ice storm.
