Resort: Sugarbush—Mount Ellen

Conditions: Sunday: Chowder and Powder--11" from Friday-Saturday, plus 6+” more today.

Weather: Cold and windy with snow. Highs in the teens, low 20’s.

2008-2009 Report #: 9

Report: We came back for more and got to the mountain at 9:30 or so, just in time to hear that the summits of Lincoln Peak and Mount Ellen were on windhold. No problem, we found powder in some of the traditionally less discovered nooks and crannies.

We did a quick spin down a powdery Cruiser. Nice. I saw that folks were doing laps on GMX, so I took J over to Inverness…which I had promised to show her yesterday.

First spin was down Inverness itself. Upper was silky and untracked. Headwall was OK and lower was nice, but you had to be careful to note where you were and to avoid the frozen SM remnants underneath the very edges of the trail that had not been groomed out. J loved it, so we scooted over to Walt’s Run. Probably run of the day. I was scarfing up knee-deep pow on the sides. The middle had been ironed out, but the six inches of pow on top tasted good. I was hooting and hollering. The grooming left a nice base.

Semi Tough was almost as good…when we hit it at about 10:30 or so, there were few tracks and much powder. J loved it, but said it was indeed “Semi-Tough” in large part due to the water bars.

Brambles also had some waterbars, but the upper part skied well and, for some reason, Lower Brambles had not been mowed and the water bars were downright nasty in spots. Beware.

We did another spin down Walt’s and took a break.

Up on Cruiser we went for two more powder runs…the first one featured a photo shoot of yours truly. Second run was not as good due to the traffic.

J did one more Walt’s Run with me before calling it quits. I did Walt’s and Semi-Tough before calling it quits at about 2pm. What a day!
