Date skied: December 13, 2008

Resort: Sugarbush—Lincoln Peak.

Conditions: Saturday: P/PP.

Weather: Saturday: Bluebird day, cold. Highs in the single digits maybe (?)

2008-2009 Report #: 6

Report: Long overdue, but it has been busy here and I have had no time. I finally managed to get out for a nice XC ski last night...but anyways, Saturday was a nice day. Powder on Hot Shot and Waterfall was really nice. Organgrinder was mint. The snow set up really well. I did at least 3 or 4 runs down it. Wow. Nice grooming and nice snow. It was a nice groomed granular that stuck to the slope, but skied fast and well. No ice. Murphy's was too choppy and too much of a glaze. Twist skied well...bony down below though. Spring Fling was nice as well.

In the afternoon I headed over to Castlerock and did Middle Earth first and then Castlerock Run/Cotillion second (both favorite runs). I must say for once the latter was the better run. Middle Earth was quite rough around Jaws and below, but upper was nice.

I'll shut up and let the picks do the talking:

Hot Shot/Waterfall:

Bravo:

A little rough on Jaws....

Castlerock Run:

Cotillion:

And I attempted a spin down Deeper Sleeper, but man, that was thin and downright dangerous in spots. There was no rope and there were tracks, but I concluded afterwards that it must have been closed.

After skiing, I was allowed to preview the special display of artifacts from Sugarbush's past. Some great stuff...photos, memorabilia, etc. Very nice. Maybe another thread? That is if folks want to see that stuff....

Thanks! Glad someone read it. One reason I am not motivated to get these up sooner is that I put the work in it and nobody reads it/notices...at least on another site that is...but it is nice when folks read them and when they get an idea of how things looked.

Yes, please continue to report. The silence you here is most likely the supression of envy. Reports especially with photos are welcome. Please keep up the good work.

Sincerely,

SC thanks - that's it - simple, effective, and a great addition to the atmosphere. Simple things make some of us very happy. Details. All the stuff that costs money works, but this is just as welcome. Couple cords of wood and most of that can come from downed trees or pruning.

As for lift inspections - here's one reason we want them: http://news.google.com/news?q=Whistler+gondola+accident&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7SUNA&um=1&hl=en&sa=X&oi=news_result&resnum=1&ct=title

thanks SC! great pictures.

Thanks Guys. My TR's get plenty of hits here...for some reason they get little interest on the sister site. Sorry to sound selfish...just want to spend time wisely.

I think your trip reports get more notice here because it is in the same board as general Sugarbush comments and questions. Having a separate board for reports gets them in one place, but I don't think that many people go to those places.

Check the number of people viewing, in the two boards at random times.

As for Deeper Sleeper being open, the woods aren't opened or closed. They are the woods. Take care and use judgment. Check the sign at the entrance.

True, but I think that it probably would have been a good idea to rope that woods run because as I found out it led to closed trails and closed areas.

Think of all the segments of woods that would have to be roped off, early in the year. They ain't got that much rope!

Thanks for the TR. especially the pics. I don't usually post on them, just look. I am laid up this winter with a torn achilles tendon. The stoke and TRs will get me through the painful PT.

Eden (between Spring Fling and Snowball) was roped off last weekend, while Deeper Sleeper appeared to be open, even though Sleeper/Chutes were closed.

Actually Spring Fling was roped off because race course was setup and they cut off a part of Eden entrance. You could still get into it from Snowball.
