The site says 8 inches. Just wondering if there are any pics or other reports. Any snowmaking yet? [Fingers crossed].

Haven't seen the site, and 8" surprises me, but not that much. Nothing here, at the bottom, but all the trails are covered, and you can plainly see that the amount increases quickly, with altitude.

I took a pic this morning, but have been working on projects. Heading out for a bit, now. If nobody has posted, by the time I get back, I'll put it up, but it is nothing spectacular. I took it because everything was brown, yesterday, and today the mountain is white.

Snowing pretty steadily, now. :D

This is from Roger Hill's web site: "WINTER might be coming in major way with accumulating snows after the 16th...Rifle season may have some great tracking conditions for the opening... "Things may be looking up.

Dumped from about 8-11AM at Mt. Ellen, and on and off thereafter. Had been coming down hard again for over an hour when I left around 4PM. Still snowing.

This was at about 11AM, right after it stopped the first time:

Things are looking up. Should be able to get some good base down this week. Temps look to be on the rise Thurs. and Fri. but there is a downward trend after that and some interesting weather maybe next week.

Back to the Sunday River this weekend. Anybody interested? Tree, notorius, 007?

I just get a red x, likely due to Big Brother restricting access to Sugarbush.com. Any chance you can load that picture into the gallery for us work bound stooges?

Unless they get ra*ned out I'll be there Sunday with 3 cans of food for Tin Mountain and $25. Hope the rock skis can handle another day as most of my gear is in Vermont. Nice shot of the snowmakers!! ; }

Maybe I will see you there Skiladi. I will be at Barker Lodge with a lady with a cast on her arm...... I heard that some other Bush regulars will also be there.

I am told by my sources that the weather later this week will not be that much of an issue as far as snow depth.

Hey its skiing!

I'd suspect the usual suspects:

Upper Jester
Upper OG
Deathspout

And Rim Run at ME.

Is there enough snow that the employees are getting runs? I'd hate to see us lose this base because it's not getting skied in.

Great to see the natural snow, the downright wintry feel again out there and the snowmaking. Last week was just too warm.

Now I'm really looking forward to the season - even more so after today since I am officially unemployed - thanks to the economy. Good thing I bought my pass when I did. Now to figure out whether to be a "snowboard bum" all winter or to get a job to tie me over.

I wouldn't say they would not loose depth. They certainly will have coverage.

Snowmaking at LP starts on Jester ,and we are currently on all the way to Allyn's Lodge. Then it is Downspout followed by Grinder and then down to the base if the temps allow. After that we will be moving over to Snowball and Spring Fling. The temps and rain will probably cut off snowmaking later tomorrow through Saturday, but the next week looks good, so I am feeling good about being open next Saturday as planned at LP.

There has been mention of snowmaking at Ellen. Is there a thought to open Ellen earlier than the projected opening in December or is that just base building? or testing of the guns over there?

Win, Glad to see that the snowmaking at Ellen is just base building. Being just an Ellen passholder I was worried I would not get my fix at South in December. Stoked for the 22nd. And for us flatlanders no opening up early during the week so we miss the opening day and loose our bragging rights for Being Better There on opening day.

Mt Ellen passes are good at South before North opens.

The projected date for South is 11/22, which is a Saturday. But if you want to ski the first day at North, maybe you need to take a sick day? (You're looking a little peaked, that day, you know. )

Summit Challenger,

What I was trying to say is that the mountain in years past has opened up a day or two earlier than projected. So, I have missed opening day in the past as it was projected for a Saturday and then opened up during the week before that Saturday opening. And when you are in CT one just cannot make the mid week opening. So, I was being selfish and did not want South to open earlier than the 22nd as I could not make it during the week next week as I wanted to be able to say I skied opening day.

Ahhh, the old "Soft Opening". I've seen that trick before. What you need to do is get friendly with people that are involved around the mountian and they PM or email you when it happens. You also have to have a job that you can just bolt when it happens. Kind of like code red.

IMHO it's not worth taking time off of work to ski at this point. I'll wait until the woods are full of some nice deep pow to use my vacation days...

Sliding down Deathspout with 1000 of my closest friends is just not my idea of fun.

Exactly. I made opening day last year and it was fun, I was pumped. But not worth utilizing a limited resource for when there will be powder days later.

I agree with not taking a sick/vaca day next week. But I am booking in the 19th of December for opening at Ellen. If anything like last December that day at Ellen should be sweet. But certainly stoked for the 22nd and for getting to ski South during the early season.

All I can say is Mt Ellen opening day last year - a Friday - was mightily worth taking the day off, driving up from Southern CT at 4am and skiing 1st tracks in feet-full of powder w/ my son in Bravo & Wayback woods, 3rd or so dibbs thru Exterminator woods, ditto in lower FIS woods, and numerous runs through Semi-tough. Left at 430p for home with gi-normous smiles on our faces. My (then) 10 yr old's 1st opening day was a monster of a memory. He's sure to be a 'Bush lifer.

Of course, last Dec was stellar w/ several early storms piling those woods high, making the excursion all the more worthwhile.

Hoping for a repeat. :P
