...my two favorite seasons. Ok, I actually don't (glancing furtively around...)care much for winter, I wish it could be May all the time. But here I am, one of winters biggest advocates.

Now we move to the 4th of July. This year is #60, and is named a Top Ten Summer Event by the VT Chamber of Commerce. The theme is "Warren's #60: Back to the Future". There are a couple of cool new entries in the parade this year. Lostone and SRO will find them with their camera.

Buddy Badges are back. Find your matching numbered badge in the crowd of thousands and maybe you will win a prize.

We are now accepting sponsorships and donations. Maybe this is a good time for ALPINE ZONE/SKIMRV to band together as a sponsor (ahem...Greg) and maybe devise a float....

I'd also like to put in a plug for the parade on the 4th.

After I bought my place up here and had a place I could (cheaply  ) reliably stay at, I would always come up for the weekend of the 4th. But, as I had a limited amount of days to hike, I never wanted to spend the time at a parade.

When I moved up, and had all the time in the world to hike, 8) I decided to spend the day going down to check it out.

It was terrific fun! :D I was amazed they could get that many people into Warren! There were a ton of the winter folk, come up for the celebration, and so many locals. Great floats and a great time! :D

My pix from last year are here. (http://forums.skimrv.com/modules.php?set_albumName=Warren_Parade_07&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php)

And despite the number of people, there, it is a shoestring budget operation. So if you can see your way thru helping them, I'm sure noski will appreciate it.

And she has said that, if we have a good enough parade, we'll get 2 to 5 2-3' snow dumps, next year. . . each month of the winter that she really loves.

Has Michael J. Fox or at least Christopher Lloyd been invited? Actually Christopher Lloyd would fit in great for the Warren parade.

Just too be clear, Lostone and I do not actually share a camera..

Here's one of my favs from last year

I just booked a place for the wife and I starting the 3rd. Is there food to buy at the parade? what about at the mountain for the fireworks?
I'm psyched (mostly because I convinced the wife to shun the beach and now I can get new ski boots while I'm up. don't tell her or she'll have me comitted).

So who is coming up/over? Should be a good time. Love this parade. It is like no other. And it is looking like it is going to be a super summer weekend! 8)

And if you could help with the parade expenses a little, noski might actually smile. It is a shoestring operation, and helping with more laces, or at least the plastic thingys that go on the end...

And Win wouldn't mind you buying a burger or two, either.

See y'all here! I'll be the one wearing the sunglasses. 8)

So... What did people think?

I thought it was great! :D

Last year, I went to the parade in Brandon, the day after the Warren parade. Brandon's was much larger. They had marching bands, riding bands, Shriners, more fire companies. It was bigger, longer and had more floats.

It really lacked the character of Warren's. Hard to tell, as the Brandon parade was more spread out, but there seemed to be a lot more people at the Warren parade.

And this year, could we have gotten a better day? 8)

This will shock you, but pix will follow.

It was great. A lot more people than I could have imagined. We took the mad bus over which worked out well. The weather was perfect. The Yaks were at the top of their game. Saw some kids jumping off the bridge into the crystal clear waters of the mad river. Afterward, we went to the mtn and hiked from the top of the SB to LP and over to CR. Fireworks were the perfect nightcap to a fantastic day.

This is a great 5 minute YouTube video done and narrated by Seven Days newspaper on the parade.

Well... It had to happen.

With all this rain, You knew I would eventually get around to the pix from the 4th. :?

And now I have. (http://forums.skimrv.com/modules.php?set_albumName=4th_2008&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php)

Here are a few...

Gerry, starting to announce the parade...
http://forums.skimrv.com/albums/4th_2008/tPICT8958.jpg

And while I'm thinking about it, there was a letter and a comment from the valley floor about Gerry's comments. As I was passing him, I heard him say to those that were here for the first time, that he was sorry, and this was not what they were expecting. I heard a bunch of people laugh. To that I said, "Or maybe it is." Again, those around me laughed.

I didn't hear most of what Gerry said, as I had moved further upstream, to get a good pix site. But I've heard his humor, a number of times. It is really hard to be humorous and please everyone. And to steal a line from Garrison Keillor, "A good time is always tasteless."

If anyone has a copy of his commentary, I'd love a copy of it.
