Dateline: Friday night

Well, we’re on the road to Jackson, after a very eventful stay in SLC. If you hadn’t heard, a huge chunk of our gear got stolen from the rental car, right outside the motel room, within the first twenty minutes of arriving. In addition to some clothing, two ski bags, two sets of poles, a shovel, and a pair of boots, we lost four pairs of skis, two of them extremely fresh, including my first new boards in four seasons, a sweet duo of Dynastar Legend Pro XXL’s.

Once the initial shock and subsequent visit from the Midvale Police were concluded, reality set in, we were on a ski vacation without any skis. Luckily, our trip happened to coincide with the annual Outdoor Retailer (OR) show, one of the world’s largest gear fests. And the VT connections were there in full force.

Many thanks to Mammut, Karhu, Black Diamond, Leki, Garmont and Lifelink for the loaners!

Despite everything, we've managed to have an okay time. ;)

Well, not so much here.

The Outdoor Retailer show was interesting though.

But also awesome! Thanks again to Black Diamond, Garmont, Leki, Lifelink, Karhu and Mammut!

Oh yeah, we went skiing too. Alta. Dumping.

It was all tracked up. ;)

The skies cleared very briefly and allowed for a nice view of Superior from Alta.

Greetings from the top of Glory, Teton Pass!

More to come.

Bummer.

I wished you had posted this yesterday. I was in SLC with Boze coming back from Alta/snowbird and had tons of extra gear (no skis) my wife had foisted upon me that I would have been glad to give you. Also would have been fun to catch a run with you. I skied Alta saturday and the 'bird thursday, Friday and sunday. It seemed to have snowed a lot more on friday at the 'bird than Alta and the conditions were therefore better there.
Where did you ski?
I hope you are still there because today and tomorrow are going to be epic.

Wow, sorry to hear about the stolen gear.

I've actually been to the top of Glory. Skied down the backside towards Idaho and hitched a ride back up to the top of the pass. One of the coolest ski related things I've done and highly recommended as it is easy to do. Of course, you need to do it with someone in the know, with the proper gear.

We just got word that most of the gear is at a pawn shop in SLC! We're on our way back from Jackson this afternoon to check in with police and hopefully get the skis to take back with us.

Thank you to all and then some!

John

p.s. We skied two runs down the backside of the Pass. Very good. Wait until you see the pics. Deep ...

p.p.s. We tried to ski this morning at Jackson, but barely made it to the Village turnoff due to extreme whiteout conditions. I had to get out and walk to lead a convoy of cars to get back to town. It was blowing so hard that I often lost sight of the headlights, even though the first car was only ~15 feet back.

The upper mtn lifts at the bird are closed due to the wind. Tomorrow morning should be sweet. Have fun and take pictures. Yours are much better than the ones I take.

Hey John...that's just what I was going to ask. You did Coal Creek instead of Glory Bowl? Good choice being eastern flatlanders...

Sorry to hear that your trip took a negative detour. However Karma is a Son of a Biatch! I hope they find the guys who pawned your gear. Looks like the snow was pretty crappy
