How much non-gravity assisted skiing is required on the run out?

If you work it right, you don't have to skate for long, but I think everyone skates. :(

Still... on the right day, it is worth it. 8)

The run out is horrendous.

2.5 miles of post-holing flats.

Stay away, if you value your life.

Fair WARNING.

Fair WARNING.

Magically the snow depth on the run out is always about 60 inches. it has its own micro-climate.

Why would ANYONE want to ski that terrible trail?????

You should leave the difficult trails to me.

Skied Lower FIS for the first time since the '70s on Wednesday, Jan. 23. The 1-2" of new snow made it pretty enjoyable. About half-way down, a veteran snowboarder came on to the trail from Southbound. I asked how far the runout back to the base was and then followed him as he tucked it (or whatever snowboarders do) for maximum speed. Despite some funky waterbars, he made it about 1/4 mile before the flat slowed him to a stop. With my tuck I was able to speed past him until a slight incline about 1/2 mile into it (this must be the part that causes the cursing), but with the fast packed conditions I was able to skate vigorously up this portion. After that, the rest of the cross-over has some pitch and dumps you into the novice area. For some reason, the cross-over to the GMX was closed so I was forced to ride the baby chair up to get back to the GMX. Definitely worth doing on skis.
