Just FYI for anyone who follows local happenings... the Harwood Union Jazz Ensemble ("A" Band) and Small Ensemble (trio) competed in the 2007 Berklee College of Music Jazz Festival in Boston, the largest of its type in the nation. The Jazz Ensemble was unfortunately disqualified for playing 8 seconds past the 18 minute time limit, however the judges later informed director Bruce Sklar that, had the "A" Band not exceeded this time limit, it would have taken second place in its division... quite an honor competing against hundreds of other high school jazz bands. Individual band members Michael Hardin (piano) and Chris Barosky (bass) were each honored with exceptional musician awards.

The small ensemble took first place for the second year in a row in its division, beating out an LA Arts school which took second place. Yet another fine performance from some of the state's finest young musicians! Chris Barosky (bass) took home another exceptional musician award for his performance with the trio, and Greg Sallerson (drums) was awarded the superior musician award for his performance.

Here is a video of excerpts from the small ensemble's performance at 10:40 AM Saturday, March 17th. Members include Michael Hardin (piano), Greg Sallerson (drums), Chris Markley (drums), and Chris Barosky (bass).
