This weekend’s event is the Dummy Big Air contest. People build a dummy and run it off a ramp, causing it to fly thru the air… then crash. Pix of a past one are on my MSN pix site (http://groups.msn.com/JimsSceneryPix/20042005season.msnw?Page=2)

More info:
Events page (http://www.sugarbush.com/funandevents/event.asp?id=140)

Why would they do this? I think that there is a big prize ($1000?)

But it doesn’t seem to be listed on the web page.

A fun event not to be missed! Pics from the past anyone? Second only to pond skimming. Still a month to go, plenty of fun ahead.

I got there alittle late and missed it as I guess there were only 5 entrants so each had a good chance to win the $1000. I did talk to the winners right after and they said they had worked on it all night. Usually they break apart in a zillion pieces but SpongeBob made it practically intact. Good job!

I saw SpongeBob getting ready for his run. His handlers opened up a door in his side and spun up bicycle wheel. It was a stabilizer, via the gyroscopic effect. Props to the creator. Great idea.

Oddly, there was suddenly "routine maintenance" that they had to do on Super Bravo just before the event started. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I was suspicious...

Ironically bravo came back online right after the event as well. There was gossip circulating that they shut down the chair for the contest. The only thing I can think of maintenance wise is if they had to do alot of work to the ramps or something.

One of the lift attendants told me that a switch had to be replaced.

The official word was they were replacing a sensor on the chair - it happens.

Geez, show some respect to the management.

[quote="Mike_451"]We also need to keep in mind that thousands of people view this board and that it is very disrespectfull to put the management, especialy Win on the spot as we have done on occasion, which is bad for our image, and bad for the image of the resort as well.[quote]

He's a business owner making money (hopefully) and we are consumers spending money in a free countery - he is not king or a dictator that shouldn't be questioned. This isn't a socialist state...well...for the benefit of all involved I won't go down that road...besides, it ain't plowed yet.

I got caught by Bravo's shutdown. I came to the bottom and figured I had one more run before the contest. As I slid down for the chair, the lift stopped. They had a couple techs climbing the tower and checking things out. A little later, they started running. About 8 chairs passed and they began (with us) loading, again.

Off the top, I moved quickly down Snowball to get back to the contest. When I got there, it was already running. I saw only hte last 4 entries, and was only able to get pix of 3. That is sad, as I usually like to get shots of all the entries.

The whole thing was done by 12:25. :(

Then, I looked down and saw that Bravo had stopped again, and this time it had been totally cleared. It started a few minutes later

I did get a few pix. They are here. (http://forums.skimrv.com/modules.php?set_albumName=Dummy_Big_Air__-_Plus&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php) Many are pix of the scene at the mountain, after the event.

To follow Lostone's theme I have to say yesterday was one of those days at the Bush that you hear everyone saying "for spring skiing it doesn't get any better than this. The bluebird morning, great skiing, fun event, crowds having a great time at the LP base area and the late afternoon upstairs at the ME base lodge.

Met up with bushmogulmaster, Andyzee, Vee at the GMX at Mellon alittle after 9 and had a great morning of doing most of the cruisers plus a trip on Slidebrook to hit North Lynx. I headed back over to Mellon about 11 to put my skis away and then took the shuttle over to LP. As I walked in to plaza I really felt the "fun relaxing in the sun, hanging outside the Castlerock Pub, awesome busy outside BBQ" vibe. It was one big party and little kids to old farts were having fun. Went back to Mellon on the shuttle and met with everyone for a sweet end to the day upstairs in the GML.

Here's a few more pics from yesterday

I hope they didn't shut Bravo down to hype up the dummy air contest, that would be really disappointing.

1) The contest is always a good show, and doesn't need to have the lifts stopped so they can get an audience. The people were there, for it.

B) They don't charge admission to view the event, so there is no need to have a crowd.

III) As mentioned above, I saw the men climbing the tower, to troubleshoot what was wrong, as it was stopping before they had to clear it.

What I saw. I was in line @ 1150, they were loading. There were ~100 people watching the dummy air. lift stopped briefly. Lift started, but they weren't loading. <1min later, someone skied over, from no where near the lift, and said they were doing "routine maintenance." and it was going to be 15 min and that we should go watch the dummy air or hike over to gate house.
