First turns on Castlerock for this year. Skied Castlerock Run, Middle Earth, Cotillion, Rumble, and Liftline. Castlerock Run was a bit fast/icy/hardpacked at the first pitch, but then was nice with some decent bumps the rest of the way. Middle Earth had some of the best bumps I've skied in a while. There were plenty of decent lines to choose from. Cotillion was Cotillion... not much to say there. Rumble was an adventure in and of itself (see pictures). Lots and lots and lots of rocks... even more than usual. However, it was still some of the most enjoyable skiing I've done in a while (I'll point out that there were rocks, but I won't complain about it... it's all part of skiing  ). It could definitely use a bit more cover, though. Liftline was also pretty rocky, to the extent that it was hard to find snow in a few spots. But still... a good challenge. Castlerock Runout was very waterbarful  . Overall, pretty good.
Paradise and Lower Paradise were decent. Quite a few little rocks sticking through, but really quite skiable. Deathspout was actually pretty good, for being Deathspout, that is. Morningstar was rough. Snow was chunky and cruddy. Better than not having it open, but not somewhere I'll be going again soon.

Always feels good to go back to my home mountain! Black Diamond was skiing well until the very bottom. Bumps were irregular, but interesting. FIS was really great on the top 1/3, but the rest was pretty variable and rather icy. Exterminator is skiing very nicely. The bumps aren't perfect lines, but they're big and they're fun :D . Upper Bravo is fantastic. The headwall on lower Bravo is VERY slick. After that, the rest is good. Lookin' Good was soft and smooth. Same with Elbow. Tumbler had great bumps today, and was all powder and packed powder. Definitely the run of the day. Cliffs is getting better, with some little bumps showing up. Hammerhead (which I think is probably the best run at the Bush) was skiing great until a group of beginner snowboaders took out most of the bumps and left a slick, smooth, nasty surface (no offense to snowboaders... offense to beginner snowboarders who think they can take on Hammerhead when they're not ready; beginner skiers could have done the same damage... maybe  ). A little more snow and it will be perfect again. Encore is a bit choppy and a bit thin, but not bad. Walt's Trail is a blast. They packed with a powder bar Saturday Night, and it's skiing great (perfect packed powder). Semi-Tough was also awesome. Packed powder with a couple of fresh powder stashes waiting to be tracked. No one skis over there, so it stays nice. IMO, it's well worth the Northway traverse.
For beginners... Crackerjack and Sugar Run are some of the best packed powder you'll find. Great stuff.
