Jay Appleton's treatise on forest management and trail cutting should be read by all who care about the future of Eastern skiing. An important message derived from this work is that those who love tree-skiing and those who want to preserve and properly manage the forests are synchronous. Go to the Mad River Glen forum. As I have said before, it is all one ridge that we share. We can all respect and learn from each other. I have spent some time on the MRG trail-cutting volunteer crew, even though I am a Sugarbush die-hard. When I tried to use this forum to recruit other Bushies my message was unfortunately removed to the MRG forum, thereby defeating its purpose. Jay really knows his "stuff". I hope the forest service absorbs his points. I also hope that before I croak that "one ridge open to all" will be the policy, with interchageable lift passes ala Alta/Snowbird (not that I'm holding my breath). That would be the bomb!!

There is a lift/lodging package called Ski the Valley where the ski tiks are interchangeable so there is some cooperation at present.

In the mid 60's Glen Ellen was planning to expand the terrain with a lift above the Inverness Lift that gets pretty close to the 20th Hole at MRG.
there is a pretty good thread over at SJ. http://www.snowjournal.com/page.php?cid=topic6337. Apparently the expansion was the main thing on Glen Ellen's mind but of course there was alot of talk about MRG and Glen Ellen sharing skiers so you never know.
