Anyone care to weigh in (Daily ?) on where things seen to stand ? Would be appreciated as we're "in valley" this coming weekend and the next.

ME! ME! Pick Me! The next uh, 14 days, 17 hours, and 13 minutes will bring a crescendo to the foliage season. Remember foliage is like a Ferris Wheel. The ride up and down are just as cool- though for a split second you get a breathaking view. Honestly, my best guess is we are 60% in most of the Valley. My 10/10 date is going to cut close to Peak. It will still be good viewing then, but more sun and less cloud (it is not about temperature, btw) would slow it down a little. You are good this weekend and next.

No... No... don't pick No...ski!

I come bearing pictures!

This is today, from Slowpoke:
http://forums.skimrv.com/albums/Assorted_Pix/tPICT1383.jpg

At the bottom of this page (http://forums.skimrv.com/modules.php?set_albumName=Assorted_Pix&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php&page=1) are three more pix from today's stroll.

The people who came up last weekend kinda got screwed. We had nothing but clouds and mist. There was color there, but they never got a good view of it... unless they hung around on Sunday. Then the sky that was supposedly going to be cloudy all day broke free, and it was lovely.

A friend wrote me and told me he thought the colors were muted. I was agreeing with him until, while trying to clear some disk space on my MSN site, I went thru the folliage pix from 2003. (http://groups.msn.com/JimsSceneryPix/autumn2003.msnw) I found the pix all taken on the same day, and that was 10/11.

So I think I have to be a little more patient. And all that said, if you check out the above pic, and the other three in the gallery... It is pretty nice up here.

We'll have about 6-7 days total "in valley" from Sept 29th to Oct 10th, so we should have some visual treats. If not, I'll just pop in a Foliage DVD, and then I won't have to move from my sofa even one little inch.

The State's foliage tracking folks offer the most accurate reports IMO. It's updated 1x per week.

Thank you! I managed to become an official foliage spotter for them. I send in my report every Tuesday. I hope I get to send in reports for at least 3 more Tuesdays!

I think those foliage tracking sites are too general and inaccurate. They say this area is near or at peak and as the pics from today 9/27 show I think there is a ways to go. The pics from Bubba's link show the same thing. The color in this area seem pretty weak and muted this year, peak is at least a week or more away.

This will come as a surprise to many, but I've been takinga few pix. I've been clearing some space on my MSN picsite and will shortly be putting some of them up there. But for now, here are a few looks at what I've been seeing.

This is what we see at the top of North Lynx:

http://forums.skimrv.com/albums/Assorted_Pix/tPICT1622.jpg

You can see that it looks as tho the leaves are totally done. Still, the top of the opposing peaks are likely close to the same, and they are still looking quite good, I think. 8)

And I had to show you another of my new friends:

http://forums.skimrv.com/albums/Assorted_Pix/tPICT1644c.jpg

Looking in, things are looking quite good, and there is still quite a bit of green in the foreground. 8)

And all I can say about this, is that is sucks living in the Mad River Valley.

More later... 8) I took over 250 pix, yesterday.

Don't worry, I'm not posting them all.

The colors have really perked up in the last two days, should be good this weekend and especially next week. Sorry noski, I don't think Mother Nature is going to play along with ya. Hope I'm wrong... :D

I'm amazed how fast the change seems to be coming on!

Yesterday

Now, remembering that we're looking at drastically different lighting, but almost the same elevation...
Today

Maybe tomorrow's sunlight will make a big difference, but I was amazed at how much the color had advanced, today.

Speaking with a bunch of people, the concensus is that the base of South (Where I live) is further advanced than many other areas, even at the same elevation. There is still a lot of green out there, but areas are really moving along fast. Here are a few from Saturday morning.

I'll have a few more, later, as I select a few good ones. smootharc, I hope you had the cance to get up and get out on Saturday. It was one of those days to be up here and outside. 8)

I hiked up Mt Abe. When I got to the summit, a guy from the Green Mountain Club came up to me and told me I was the 200th person to get there!

Those shots aren't even out of my camera, yet.

Will we make it....? I think it will be close! For those who can not be here for the peak moment, watch the countdown clock and catch it on the cam at www.madrivervalley.com

We will be awful close! :? On the good side, there is a little more than a week that things look good after "peak", so even if we miss your, "peak", it will still likely be looking great for another week. 8)

OK... :? So that is my plan, anyway.

Few more pix from Saturday:

You can see there is still more green to go.

The color right now is awesome, I think this weekend it will be even better. There are still some trees/patches that are just starting so I think there will still be good color on the 10th just for noski. Perhaps the warm weather is effecting the process. Here some pics from today of the valley and the Roxbury Gap area.

How do those trees know Noski? (no knowski?) :?

I agree that there is a lot of green still out there, even on the lower mountain. I shot up most of a card, today, and hope to get some of them out, tonight.

I think noski should get out there and staple the remaining leaves to the tree in front of the camera.

I'm planning on crashing the peak festival. :)

Anyone else? 8)

It's a couple of days after the "official" foliage peak and there still is alot of color in the valley and more to come in the next week or so. Here are a few pics from today.
