Edited by Lostone to add the bold part, whch has been transferred from another thread with the same name.

Wandering around the hill, I got a few new pix, from different angles.

You can see them here:
http://forums.skimrv.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album07&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php

I think this is the best of them:

Sorry for any confusion.

Tumbler's post starts here:

Where is that shot taken from? Did you climb a tree? It's a great one. It's hard to get perspective from the photo, but the base lodge doesn't look that much bigger. I think I've read that it is a significant upgrade in size from the Old Gatehouse. Maybe because it's right next to the ginormous condo building it looks smaller than it really is.

Lostone

That would have to be a pretty big tree! :)

It is taken from the top of Stein's.

I assure you, almost everyone who's seen the lodge up close is saying it will be a lot larger.

For perspective, note the size of the cars and trucks around it.

I took some that were closer, of the lodge, but the sun was too bright for a good look. Maybe after watching some of the race, today, I'll wander over to the base and get a few more shots, up close. 8)

And look thru the pix in the gallery. (This one is only about 5 shots, now. It won't take too long.) It shows from a couple different places.

Too funny...I was out there yesterday taking some photos. Kinda cool cause I think our images compliment eachother as they are diferent. Obviously I didn't put into as much effort as Lostone did but he is in alot better shape than me. BTW...I am working very hard on that...lol

After the Bush I headed up to Stowe. I haven't been up to Stowe since they started construction so I was curious how things were going, I also went over the notch to Smuuggs...wow...That place was hopping. Lots of familes and kids doing all kinds of things. I talked to someone there and he said it's this busy all summer long. If they can do it I think other resorts could do it as well. I will posting the Stowe pics over on AZ as soon as I process them.

This will be a good thread to keep a live in order to post periodic updates and impressions of the emerging new base area. I may just need to sticky it, if I can.

Edit: I can't.

Gotta love that early morning sunshine. My pic of hte Gatehouse, which I didn't post was taken withthe sun over my left shoulder, and the glare off the wood was too bright. You weren't able to see any of the work at the bottom, which I would have wanted to show.

That's interesting... :? I'm sure I did a response to noski's last post, just after she posted it. Wonder how it got away? Musta been another case of bad fingers.

In any case, here (http://forums.skimrv.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album07&id=tPICT0871&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php) are some pix from this week. I did a similar hike as last week. Hitting Next moves to the other pix from this week, and Previous to last week's.

Notice the color difference in the trees at the top and bottom of Pic 922? It is coming on fast! 8)

Interesting, from this week, I met a new friend.

There are some pics in this thread (http://forums.alpinezone.com/8976-sugarbush-pics.html#post95074) which show the old Gatehouse footprint as compared to Claybrook, as well as the new Gatehouse. As you can see the new lodge is indeed significantly bigger.

S_R_O- I am still curious about the silo.... is it done? Last week I was up and it seems the top was wood and the bottom 2/3 was "silver". I have been looking at Vermont silos for a while to see what an "authentic" silo looks like- (this one is straight, not leaning...) I am wondering if the silver is what the finish indeed will be... could you tell?

I'm not SRO, nor do I play him on TV, but the latest update on the LP Village Supervisor's Journal from 9/18 indicated that the silver was the final finish. To wit:

hmmmm.... "lead-coated copper" means it will not stay silver, for which I am glad. It should soften and weather to a nice patina. That works.

Noski is correct. It will not happen overnight, but oxidation will do its work. We did not build the leaning tower of Pisa either, so I predict it will stand up straight well after our life expectancy. If you look carefully at the Castlerock picture posted today, you will see that the trails have been mowed. Once again we wil have mowed all the trails so that they are ready for the first snows! Want to guess what color the Bravo and Gatehouse lift terminals might be? Guess, but you may have to wait until 12/9!

I'm hoping for something more muted than the bright blue as they currently are, but then again, I really don't mind!! (although I think a dark green or dark brown could go well with the buildings at the base!)

Camoflage white, so unsuspecting reckless skiers will crash?

There is a singer in the Boston area who has a song that goes:

Judging from those pictures, there is an extensive amount of re-grading happening on the uphill side of the new lodge, extending out to the area around the base terminal of the GH quad. I would imagine that the big pile of dirt seen near the Bravo quad in previous photos is for the same purpose. Probably not surprising given the higher ceilings on both floors of the new lodge. Can't wait to se it in person come columbus Day weekend.

I still think a nice "Clay Brook Red" color would be cool for the lift bases of the Bravo and G/H. But the "artists conception" of a view of the base from the mountain had the current color for the bases, and it didn't look that bad.

And the little path seems to be a continuation of the one on the other side of Inferno Road, which goes down to the Warren House. This one goes a little more than halfway up the parking lot. Not sure of the purpose, (Win?) but it is a cute little thing, and I find the one down to the Warren House much more pleasant than walking along the road. 8)

I got the hardhat tour of Claybrook afterward. I LOVED what I saw. The model unit is tastefully decorated with a kitchen to die for. "Elegant Country" Bob A called it. I agree. Local artists work on the walls, simple, tastefully done. Did I mention the kitchen? Black granite counters and bar, with white cabinets- some with glass doors complete with mullions.White wainscotting on backsplash, burnished nickel accents/door/drawer pulls/faucets. And the real bad news was that I was hiking in shorts!

everything looks great, but it looks like there is much to be done before SB South opens on Dec 9th. Less than 30 days away!

Pizagalli is cranking and while there is a lot to do, they are on schedule for Gate House to be ready for 12/9. There will undoubtedly be punch list items, but nothing to delay the opening. Most of the outside work should be finished by end of next week and that is the risk this time of year. If we have to defer some landscaping until the Spring so be it as I hope it will be under terrific snow cover anyway. All of the kitchen equipment is on sight so there are no delivery risks. Claybrook comes on stream on the 15th for the first overnight guests and Timbers will open that week as well. Next week Pizagalli begins turning some rooms over for final cleaning and furnishing and each week more are scheduled. They have a very detailed schedule which is being followed. All will be ready even though there will undoubtedly be growing tension as we approach the finish.

Speaking of weather. The next several days look good for construction and bad for snowmaking. The Cold front we hoped would come down this weekend probably will not and the temps at the top will unlikely be cold enough for snowmaking. We put down a great base and hopefully we will keep a lot of it, but we are going to have to have another 2-3 days minimum to finish getting to mid-flats at Glen House. We'll keep everyone posted next week.

if you have the commercial kitcken equipment on site already, then you might just get there on the gate house. whatever happens, i'm impressed with all the hussle. to build a completely new lodge in 9-11 months is a feat. particularly in a tight labor market like i suspect you have up there.

I don't think you wll get many complaints if you have to defer lanscaping !

Project is looking good and thanks for the updates

Pictures of the interior model are now on the Sugarbush's site. Some of my photography. The model I found to be very spacious and comfortable. They even had enough room to pull the couches away from the walls and still have it be very spacious. I got a walk through of the rest of the building project. It is very nice with lots of fine details. It has lots of WOW visuals.

Gate house interior was also WOW! ... again very spacious! :)

I know it is not ready for broad viewing but it would be neat to see some "raw" photos...then we can compare them with the real thing a month from now

Does the new Gate House lodge have a large fireplace connecting to that stone veneer chimney? if so, it would be great to see a shot of what it looks like.

I'll add another question - is there a decent sized deck on the north side of the new lodge? I really used to love sitting out on those warm late season days, eating lunch and having a cold one. That view up towards the VH pod was great.

There is not a fireplace in the Gatehouse but there is one in Timbers. There is not a deck because we have moved the Castlerock Pub to the first floor. It will have a great patio with a BBQ area.

I'm unable to get inside to take pix, as for some reason, they feel they'd rather complete the construction than let me play with my camera.

With these layout questions, I believe I'm relating what I heard, but I'm really relating what I remember... which is not the same thing.

I believe the north side will be the food service area.

There is no deck on the north side. There never has been one.

There is a large patio outside the new Castlerock Pub, facing Timbers. There are French doors which open out to the patio, in nice weather and the summer. 8)

Edit to ask how the heck Win snuck in there before me, again?

Lodge without a fireplace? Why?

Wait, if there's no fireplace then what's the chimney for?

Yeah, Tin, the deck was the on the south end of the old lodge, not the north, north was the annex tent...

I think Tin knows the deck used to be on the south side, that's how he knew "That view up towards the VH pod was great". I assume he asks about the deck on the northside for the new version cause we already know from all the pics there is no deck on the southside. :D

My guess is food service venting.

Maybe I'm just a pyro, and I'm not oblivious to the negatives (danger, dirt etc.) but I can't believe there is no fireplace. I can understand going with the gas in the Claybrook units, but to me the fireplace is part of the skiing experience.

A fireplace is nice but the old Gatehouse Lodge didn't have one either. Perhaps the increased sensitivity regarding the pollution it produces is part of the reason.

I know. I only asked about the north side b/c that was the only side I couldn't see from the pictures.

Anyway, yeah, no fireplace in the lodge = disappointment.

Edit: SRO nailed it.

At least there's one in Timbers....but was hoping for a super-sized one in the lodge to 'chill' by...for me, fireplace = authentic

As for the pollution, please. Kinda makes light of the fact that some of us drive 4 hours to get to the mountain, and until there's a sizable 4x4 hybrid available to the masses let's table that notion about fireplaces being a leading cause of smog!

Are those brick pavers or concrete in the "plaza" between Gatehouse and Timbers? It's hard to tell from this pic. That should be a great area.

That is a concrete walkway. The little plastic things are protecting it as it dries.

And on the last page of tis gallery, there is a panorama from the northwest corner of Gatehouse and Timbers. I didn't copy it here, as it is too wide, and may stretch the page too much. ( I hate that effect.

These will likely be some of my last pix of the project before the 9th, as I'm starting to actually ski, and that seems to be taking up some of my time. ( What's with that?) :?

But on the 9th, you will be able to walk around it and see it to your heart's content. 8)

I have edited your post to put the pic up, but what you needed to do was click again, after you've pasted the Image address.

Edit your post, and you'll see the addition to your post, which is the tag, at the end of the address.

I just caught an interview on our local RSN tv channel with Doug Lewis and the architect of Clay Brook. I happened upon it while flipping thru so I missed his name but I found the discussion very interesting. He emphasized that the building will seem unbalanced and large now until the rest of the buildings are constructed and the basis visual concept of Clay Brook as three barns put together interlocked.
