This where you can post your Sugarbush photos. I never bring my camera when I ski so can only post non skiing images but I know many of you have great Sugarbush photos both skiing and non-skiing. Don't be shy, Let's see them pics!

And a totally random interesting thing, I have this pic titled Heaven's Gate on Flickr and they come up with an ad to rent the DVD Heaven's Gate.

I took this shot before I moved to the valley and was living in Montpelier. Took many trips to finally get a night where this image was possible. Did you know Vermont is the 5th cloudiest state in the country?

Every place, be it a national park or a ski town, there are these icon locations that you see often and are photographed from often. This is one of them. Shot from a cornfield behind the Valley Rescue Squad building. One way to recognize such a location is by all the tripod holes in the snow by those who have come before you. :D

As a trustee of that iconic beauty, any idea how much it costs us to keep the back of that church painted for all you photogs? If you stand back there you will notice most of the buildings are unpainted on the back in keeping with tradition. Maybe we should take up a special collection, or faggetaboudit and insist you use photoshop. One year we had a broken window in the back that was boarded up for a few months. Some photogs "fixed" it in their shots. Wish it were that easy in real life!

I don't own or use photoshop so I appreciate the swell paint job. And thanks for renovating and painting the steeple 5 years ago, still looks great. Hope you don't mind a request, could you keep the inside lights on during the night as it makes for a much better photograph.

I'm an amateur with photo editing at the highest, so I'm sure you know more than me. Just advocating open source software whever possible. If you've been using the other at work and don't have anything on your home computer, you have nothing to lose by trying out the GIMP - and if someone uses only 10% of the capabilities, at most they wasted a few minutes downloading and installing :-)

My photo office is at home so that's where I use it. When I buy software I always get it on a CD so I can upload it on other computers. There are several free and good photo editing programs out there. I have never heard of GIMP but it sounds like it does a great job. I will check it out. People are always asking me about photo editing freeware. While there are several photo file compression programs that you have to pay for, I still use Jpeg Optimizer which is freeware and it works great. I am also an advocate for both freeware and shareware.

Churches and their steeples in Vermont are akin to the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Great Wall of China in China, the beaches and surf of Hawaii, so on and so on. It is your responsibility to the Vermont tourism industry to have your church looking as spiffy as possible at all times, especially in the fall and winter. Your lucky that boarded up window thing was in the back as you might have been fined severly by the Vermont Tourism Department just up the road in Montpelier. Don't worry your little secret is safe with me. Loose lips sinks ships and all that.

Happy New Year to you and I wish I was up there, love the Torchlight Parade and "Big" Ed Reed used to do some great fireworks. I bet Dave does a great job as well. :D

... well, I think so. :?

A few weeks ago, on Stein's I told some people that I'd post some pix that I was taking.

Unfortunately, most of them didn't come out too good. That is because I'm learning a new camera, and... well, it is more of a project than I would have liked.

I've been spending a lot of time editng the pix I've been taking and trying to figure out how to get ~good shots. :?

In any case, I will put some of those up soon (?) along with some others.

I also wanted to bring this thread back to the top to remind people that if they have any good pix of or at the bush...?

What sort of camera is it? I'm assuming digital, but if you used a digital in the past, another shouldn't be terribly difficult to figure out, right?

I have a bunch of pics from a few weekends back, but I'm a little too lazy to resize them... perhaps next weekend...

Unfortunately, no. I have three D_Cams and all are different.

What I'm fighting with at the moment is EV levels. When you are shooting in a bright location, the camera will try to darken the picture so it doesn't overexpose. Unfortunately, that makes people in the pix come out too dark. EV is a setting that allows you to set the curve so that it accepts more or less light.

My Olympus doesn't have that function, but adjust pretty well, without it. My Minolta has it in all modes and 8 points per direction. My Kodak has it but 4 steps per direction.

Unfortunately, the Kodak resets it to zero every time you turn off the camera and doesn't have the setting in the sports mode. That means you can have the lighting and take a chance on the focus, or get the focus and take a chance on the lighting.

Here are a few examples:
First two are from the same position and right after one another. Note the detail of the people and the sky color.

Kodak EV = 0
http://forums.skimrv.com/albums/Assorted_Pix/t100_0170.jpg

Kodak EV= +1
http://forums.skimrv.com/albums/Assorted_Pix/t100_0171.jpg

And this one is actually a different day, but looking in the other direction on Jester, shows the need for negative EV setting.

Kodak EV= -.5
http://forums.skimrv.com/albums/Assorted_Pix/t100_0241.jpg

I'll get it right... sometimes.

Well, that sounds rather crappy. Not much more to say on the subject I guess - it just seems that a quality camera should do a good job automatically setting exposure values...

Beyond # 0241, there are a bunch of not so recent pix. I'll be cleaning out many of the pix from this album in the near future. I have a bunch more to go up, and I'm running out of available disk size on that site. :?

For the record, I posted the last couple as they fit (IMNATHO) into the "Ya gotta laugh" catagory. Is it sad that we lost that much?

Read my trip report for last week, and all the fun I had on the left side of the mountain.

Those trails were brown, yesterday.

On the other hand, the people pictured in the last, were not just smiling. They were laughing.

I've done the same thing and worse... but usually in late March or April, when that kind of thing should be done.

And there was nothing soft and powdery about that part of that trail, that day. We all went up there for the great powder, but it was a lot of wind slab.

I took the first one down Birch Run. There were bodies everywhere..

Morning Star was the least bad. I was on my second trip up saying "It couldn't all be that bad!"

There was a great line of soft, knee deep powder, toward the bottom, but getting there...

Sometimes, with skiing, you just don't know until you go.
