A fine holiday week in review.

Lots of smile where to be seen around the MT over the holiday week.

While we did not get the big snows of the south it did give use enough to open lots of natural trails and bring us lots of new guests. And the snow they blew on Sleeper

I understand we had 3 of the most combined skier visit days over a holiday period, which should help to fill the coffers.

The new Farm House and School House offered great new professional look to the base area and from the parents I shared lunch with they said it worked out wonderfully. Their kids had a blast.

Even Mad River was at 100%.

With high winds up high at South and the subsequent closure of Heaven’s Gate. North had it chance to shine.

North skied some of the best I can remember.

Early season snafus and the subsequent late snow making start in combination with the high winds and upper lift closures did also show one of our weaknesses. Not having North Lynx open till late in the week and Steins not offering a lower MT expert option ended up over crowding the lower MT. At one point the Brovo singles line extended up to the entrance of the Valley House Cafeteria door. Only to be passed by the Valley House lift line extending back in the opposite direction. This also ended up over crowding the open trails which facilitated being hit hard by a tourist on the high traverse just above the top of Valley House Lift.

Another thought is when all lifts and most trails are open we can spread the crowds nicely on the busy days. Which with the new family facilities I suspect will be more common. I wonder if there is a way to build a “cat track” parallel/weaving next to the Slidebrook express so it can run when there is little or no snow and evaking is needed can be done by non-snow depended vehicles.

The New Years Eve fireworks where great! The bands at both the Castle rock pub and Timbers rocked. Fun to see a 10 piece band including a horn section rocking Timbers.

The week was closed out with a pass holder weekend. A little rain first thing both mornings kept the faint at heart away only to provide us with clearing skies and sunny soft bumps. Allowing for lots of air.

In closing I think it was a fine week. The staff did a great job! Thanks.

The Sugarbush community showed our new guest what a fun, family friendly, open arms community we have.

Now for a little snow dance to fill everything back in for next weekend.

For me, the holiday week started off very frustrating, then morphed into a "spring break party" before firming up again.

My lift that I was assigned to was on windhold from Dec 27-29. On that Wed, I was reassigned to Bravo and on Thu & Fri, spent my time atop a VERY BUSY Gate House. This prompted the question "Is Heaven's Gate closed?" from many. The atmosphere at the top of Gate House on Friday definetely seemed more like a St Patrick's Day party than New Year's Eve Day. We had some challenges with building ramps in the morning and their upkeep during the day. This wasn't too bad, though the worst part was riding down at the end of the day and seeing bare spots popping up and watching the trail count drop.

We definitely had a few really busy days at LP and people seemed to be having a great time. We can't control Mother Nature. But of course it could've been worse... I'll take 50 and sun vs 40 and rain anyday.

But now... we need the snow!

PS - very nice shots there, Treeskier!

Nice work Tree. You certainly did the rounds.

Good to see and as usual the "Mail Man" isn't mailing it in. ;-)
