There is a thread about this from last year. I have found that from Upper Westchester County (north of 287) the best route is the Taconic. I take Taconic to 295 to 22 to 7 (NY) to 297 to 7 (VT) and then through Rutland to 100.

Can't comment on the Bethel shortcut until I try it next time.

Sorry about that but I went thru the previous threads before I posted and just went thru them again. Found a thread specific to BMR, I91 and Roxbury Gap but not general thread about routes to the Bush. If your talking about the one on AZ, they are our parent but this is a diferent forum. Smile

You're right. Now that I think about it, I was PMing that last year.

The premise was the same. If you are more than 5 miles north of 287 in Westchester, IMHO you are better off taking the Taconic then 87 or 91.

I am near Croton-on Hudson and that route takes me just a touch over 4 hours.

Early Sunday morning we a few guest hurridly leaving the Bush a day early to get back home(NYC area) before the snow hit. They asked me which way would be the fastest/safest.

Got me thinking. It seems there are two major opinions on this. Some prefer the 95/91/89 tp Middlesex exit down 100B to Rt 100. Definately abit longer but people feel the fact they are on a divided highway all the way except the last 20 miles, it's faster. The folks on the other side of the highway prefer the Thruway/ Northway/ Rt 149/Whitehall/Rutland/up Rt 100 nea the Killington Access Rd.

Which way do you go? Do some of you risk Roxbury Gap in the winter? Lots of MRV employees drive over it everyday. Do you use another Rt other then the two I mentioned? Rt 4 to 22A over App Gap is somewhat popular, especially in the summer. This info might be helpful to some.

Coming from NYC, Islightly prefer the NYS Thruway route you mentioned, but have done the App Gap route as well. I think it's fine in the winter, except perhaps during a storm. Be careful about Rt 22A. There is a NY 22 an a VT 22 (not such which has the "A"). Both will work, but the VT route, I think, would be a little shorter, at least mileage-wise.
